Month: December 2007

  • Rach and I flew back to ATL last night from spending a great week up in the frozen north.  Minnesota has a ton of snow and ice which was perfect for snowmobiling.  Great time.  The night before we left we were visiting her grandparents looking at their family albums and I realized that I do not take enough pictures.  They had pictures of people, places they lived, ect.  This is something I need to totally work on.  I suppose I hate looking like some silly tourist but the memories evoked from Rachel and her family during our time there was priceless.  Seeing her parents when they were our age was priceless.  My how people change.

  • Dan and I went to see I Am Legend last night.  I was disappointed that it strayed from the book, it was a pretty depressing movie and the creatures looked like they were done by amateurs, too CGI’ed and not “real”.  The book deals with the legend behind vampires (in the movie, they were savage creatures who ate people but burned when hit with sunlight), every night the vampires come to Neville’s house wanting to get him but he plants garlic and crosses all over the yard to keep them at bay.  In the movie he hides out in a house and the creatures do not know where he is.  In the book there was Cortman, the antagonist who continually calls for Neville to come out, in the movie, he does not exist.  I do not want to spoil the ending in case the two people who read this decide to go out and see it but it strays from the book as well, big time.  My suggestion, go to the matinee and save a buck.

  • My granny is trying to get rid of furniture.  Her house is just too big for her and she’s looking at scaling down.  Rachel and I jumped to claim a nice book shelf.  We were dusting it and came across my grandfather’s old Clemson saber/sword from back in the day.  He bought it at a garage sale… no idea how much it costs but talking to another Clemson fan who likewise received his sword from his grandfather said mine was in much better condition.  I am still trying to learn more about it, like how much one cost back then, how much they’re going for currently, ect.

I have a cool sword now and it is now proudly hung over my desk.  You’re truly not a man until you have a sword.  I’ve taken a few swings with it and boy does it give you a weird thrill… yet after awhile my elbow started to get sore from the sudden starts and stoppages… my battle experience is growing.

    Hope you all are well.

  • Tonight was our last small group for the year.  A mini-Christmas thing… afterwards I got my arse handed to my by Smed and Rachel at Ziggity.  The weekend is coming soon and we’ll be heading up to my grandmothers for Saturday to rendezvous with my mom & dad.  They’ve been so good to us.

I finished “I Am Legend” a couple days ago and even though its a really short story (160 pages) its one of those psychological-horror books that tackles not only the horror outside but internally as well as the main character battles the effects isolation takes on him.  Imagine that you are the last person alive and everyone else contracted a disease that turns them into a vampire.  During the day you go out search for supplies and repair your home but you have to be inside before nightfall because all the vampires come for you trying to break in.  How would you survive?

  • The apartment is now wireless… welcome to the 2st century o’ building from the 1950′s.  It was way easier than I anticipated, getting my laptop adapter card to work and whatnot was a huge worry for me.  Major props to my computer suave cousin graduate of Nerd U for his assistance, encouragement and promptly stopping me when I almost installed Norton Internet Security (big no-no).

I recently purchased a snazzy lil’ graphic tablet to help with some photoshop projects that I’ve been meaning to get around and now that Rach can do her online work via the laptop I am free to work to my heart’s content or until 10pm when I go to sleep.

Clemson is going to the Peach Bowl New Year’s Eve… mom and dad are considering getting tickets and wanted to know if I’d be interested… hmmmmm.

Finally, tonight Rach and I went over to the Wetmore’s and helped with the bread ministry.  It was time well invested and meeting some nice people.

Oh look at the time… almost 10.  Later guys!
