(...the journey continues...)
TRAVELING MADE DIFFICULT: I'm leaving for Beijing (as in China, for those who are geographically impaired) in under a month for Lunar break... I'm checking out some hotels and everyone keeps telling me about the Holiday Inn - Lido which is a great hotel and right in the middle of everywhere I want to be but its 80 bucks a night for 5 nights *ouch*. Maybe I should be going to Thailand or Bali. Anyhoo, gotta talk to some of the staff who've already gone so I can anticipate what to expect, I've heard the taxi drivers mob you as soon as you step out of the airport and try to rip you off by overcharging...
TRAVEL TIP (courtesy of Ryan Pierce): Only ride in the taxis that have a meter.
Ahh knowing IS half the battle. Anyone else have some sound advice and you might get posted like the lucky Mr. Pierce... and please no "don't eat yellow snow", that's obviously a gimme.

stay a couple nights in a hostel~ that will cut down on the costs~~
are you going to china by yourself?
Chris, hostel... yeah, I looked on-line and saw some good ones, you have any recommendations?
B, I am going to China by myself... but hope to see Eric and Faith sometime during the week if they can come for a visit.
i think the hostel we stayed at was with youth international or something like that. blue triangle signs...they are all over the world. it's DEFINITELY the way to go for money and just a VERY interesting experience. maybe michael will still be there and sing you to sleep playing Radiohead on his guitar, like he did for the 6 of us! make sure you bargain hard! i can't remember the part of the great wall we went too, but it was less touristy and that made it cooler
my dad gave me lots of CD's at christmas for learning chinese, i have a book "chinese in 10 minutes a day", and a lonely planet on china that was used emmensely while we were there at chusock. if you want to borrow any, give me a holla~!
Moore was not as fanatical near the end, with one exception being his decision to stand behind Oprah Winfrey as the Democratic candidate for 2008. ("Who DOESN'T like Oprah??" Well, me, for one.
Starting DVC tonight.
