  • Sunday night I took Rach out to see a movie.  We went out to watch The Second Chance hosted at campus church here in Toccoa.  One of my least favorite CCM singer starred in it but we saw a clip that looked entertaining.  Rachel needed a break from her homework and getting to know more people in town is always a bonus.  It turned out very well done.  I thought it would be 85% singing by said least favorite singer but it wasn't.  He did a good job acting  and his songs weren't the usual whiny or two centimeters deep crap.  My respect for him grows.

  • HAIKU FRIDAY!!!

    Starship Enterprise.
    Kirk, Spock, McCoy and others...
Star Trek is forty years old!

"Diplomats!  The best kind of diplomat is a fully loaded phaser bank!" - Mr. Scott

Rachel read yesterday's comment and hastened to remind me that the ratio for guy movies to girl movies has been 3:1 since we've been married.  I then reminded her that if it were not for true love that ratio would be up near the 6-7:1.

Her punches are getting harder.  I might have to cut back on the violent movies for her (see its "true love").

  • Rachel sometimes like to pretend that her back/feet/ or whatever needs a massage calls out  for me.  I was  checking out  my fave website when  her back needed some attention.  I turned around informed her that there will be no back talking in this house.  In the end, Rachel rolled her eyes and her back got a good long massage.

I have learned what true love is:  Its choosing to watch "You've Got Mail" for the third time while cuddling on the couch with the wife rather than "Batman Begins" for the fourth.  Its all about sacrifice :)

  • Happy Labor Day... or lack thereof if you got the day off like Rachel and me.  Got back from Death Valley Saturday night after watching Clemson manhandle Florida Atlantic.  We had a great view up top (i.e. kissing heaven) the only downer was having a drunk frat boy fall over me onto this little girl in the row in front.  Security was there in an instant and he was outta there.

Rachel has been uber busy on homework for her master's class.  Educational Psychology.  She's doing well.  Its nice not having to be taking classes and working but sometimes I do miss the school environment.  Working hard to put my woman through... it gives me reason to work hard and ask for overtime.  Rachel appreciates.

  • HAIKU FRIDAY!!!

    Football in the air,
catch and run to the end zone.
    Orange in the endzone!

We have Christian music playing at work which is nice.  I heard a song this morning and one of the lines goes, "Whenever you see a shadow, you know the sun is right behind."  Think about that next time you read the 23rd psalm.  On the downside it seems every 4th song is Steven Curtis Chapman...  he is a great writer/singer and all that but whenever I hear his music I just can't randomly spoof his music.

  • Its Game week here in the States.  College football starts this Saturday.  With tickets in hand Rach and I will make the trek up to Clemson to see the Tigers play.  It reminds me of how desparate I was for my Americana while in Korea.  Staying up til 7am on a Sunday morning to listen to a game online... crazy.  Pierce and I skipped church one time to watch a game (or was that basketball?).  We got the main sermon points from some people afterwards... so I was still super-spiritual.

This past Saturday I came home from working half a day to watch a high school football game on ESPN.  The quarterback of the school is amazing good (committed to play for Clemson next year).  Anywho, he runs the ball and is about to be tackled by the DB.  The QB freakin' stiff-armed him!!!  Wow!

    willy!
WHAT DO THE FIVE FINGERS SAY TO THE FACE?  SMACK!

Rachel had been dreading the start of football season but slowly she's actually starting to look forward to it, though not as intense as me... she's getting there... when she wants to put on face paint and cover her whole body with it and insists on running across the field I'll put a stop to it.  No worries there.

In other news within the next couple of weeks we have some pretty big decisions to make we would greatly appreciate any prayers that we would see where God is leading us.

  • A couple nights ago Rachel found a biography program on Lucille Ball (of "I Love Lucy") on TV while I was washing the dishes.  She and Desi were married after just knowing each other for six months.  They later divorced  after about 20 years due to his drinking problem and womanizing.  After we had gone to bed she turns to me and says she hopes we don't have problems like Luscy and Desi.  Semi-asleep I told her that I won't womanize if she doesn't drink.  She quickly reminded me that she does not drink.  Alright then, I won't drink if she doesn't womanize.  The bruise on my ribs has almost healed.

Moral of the story: Keep it to yourself if you do not want your woman to womanize.

  • I was not feeling very well last night so Rachel quickly made up some orange juice.  As I was drinking it the thought occurred to me:  Orange juice is yellow!  Well I'm off to work.

  • Bleary-eyed our hero squints at his monitor in the early hours of the morning (7:30am) before heading off for work.  He has never been a coffee person much to the chagrin of Virginia Hood.  That was, however, before he tried his wife's special mocha.  Mmmm.  Now he is awake and alert thanks to his wife all is well.  Sorry Slavebucks, you cannot have his arm and leg for a cup of your steaming goodness this day for he has my own.

    Rachel Mocha Recipe

3 tablespoons of Great Value brand hot choco mix
1 tablespoon of McDaniel's Gormet Blend Instant Coffee (Old World Classic)
    1 cup of water
    1/2 cup of 1% milk

Heat the water in the microwave for 1.5 minutes and pour into coffee mug.
Heat the milk for 30 seconds and add to said mug.
Add the mix and coffee, stir and chug.
